Just for Men: 5 Tips to Stay Hydrated All Year Long

Most men get into the habit of drinking less water when the weather gets cooler. But this is not healthy. Even in the cold weather, you’re likely to get dehydrated, especially if you are working out or doing an outdoor activity. And dehydration can be a serious issue that can even lead to hospitalization if left unchecked. So here are a few tips to stay hydrated all year long.

  1. Drink a Lot of Water

Obviously, this is the first thing you need to do. If you don’t like water at room temperature, keep some in the fridge. Or you can also add a slice of lemon to give it some taste. You can also go with seltzer water if you prefer the taste of it.

  1. Drink Juices and Flavored Waters

Drinking water can become a little monotonous. So, you can shake things up by drinking juices of various sorts or flavored waters, such as vitamin water. Fresh juices, of course, are the best. Or you can take regular OJ and add a bit of water or seltzer to it, so that you don’t end up consuming too much sugar.

  1. Avoid Caffeinated Beverages

When you drink too much coffee or tea, you end up going to the bathroom often. That results in dehydration. You can still have a cup or two per day, but don’t guzzle it down all day long.

  1. Hydrate During Workouts

When you work out, you lose a lot of water. If it’s hot outside, it’s better to exercise in an air-conditioned environment or at least late in the evening when the sun is not overhead. Plus, remember to drink water throughout your workout and replenish your electrolytes afterward.

However, go with a low-calorie beverage with electrolytes instead of a high-calorie one. Most sports drinks contain a lot of carbohydrates, so it’s better to drink them sparingly.

  1. Eat Hydrating Foods

Many fruits are quite hydrating, such as watermelon, grapes, honeydew, cantaloupe and plums. Certain vegetables are also hydrating such as cucumber, lettuce, zucchini and celery. But it’s generally a good idea to eat as many fruits and veggies as possible. That will also help you to get all your vitamins. If you have a juice bar near your gym, you might want to start going there after your workouts.

Hydration is important for men. It’s healthy to drink more water and it’s also a good idea if you want to have good skin, hair and nails. When you’re hydrated, you look better and you feel better, too.
